SYRACUSE – Syracuse University (SU) Chancellor Nancy Cantor will leave the school in 2014 after her contract ends.
Cantor said in a message posted today on the SU website that she told the Board of Trustees of her decision this morning. She joined SU in 2004. Her message did not discuss her future plans.
Cantor’s tenure was marked by a number of initiatives meant to tie the university more closely to the city, including the Connective Corridor, the Warehouse in Armory Square, the South Side Innovation Center, and the Near Westside Initiative.

Cantor also served as co-chair of the Central New York Regional Economic Development Council with CenterState CEO President Robert Simpson.
“Chancellor Cantor has brought to the university an open mind and a collaborative leadership style that have helped produce unprecedented levels of cooperation from community groups, to business partnerships, and the region’s elected leaders,” Simpson said in a statement.
