L—3 lands Spring Airlines contract

BINGHAMTON — China–based Spring Airlines awarded a contract to L-3 Communications, which has a facility in Binghamton, to deliver two A320 Full Flight Simulators and one A320 Flat Panel Trainer.

L-3 Link UK will build all the training devices and deliver them in the fourth quarter of 2013 to the airline’s future training center at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

“This new, competitive win is a key milestone in L-3’s entry into the civil aircraft simulation and training arena and highlights our growth strategy in commercial and international markets,” Steve Kantor, president of L-3’s Electronic Systems Group, said in a release. “In providing our next-generation flight-training systems, we are supporting Spring Airlines’ expanding market position and growing schedule of domestic and international routes.”

Both simulators will employ L-3 Link UK’s modular RealitySeven simulation architecture and Spring Airlines becomes the 13th worldwide customer for the simulator solution. The A320 trainer will support procedural training, decreasing the amount of time required in the full-flight simulators.

Headquartered in New York City, L-3 Communications (www.link.com) employs about 51,000 people worldwide at locations including ones in Binghamton; Orlando, Fla.; Oklahoma City, Okla.; Broken Arrow, Okla.; Phoenix, Ariz.; and Crawley, U.K.

The company provides training solutions for military and civil aircraft platforms.
