City of Syracuse seeks proposals for opioid-settlement relief funding

Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh says the city is offering a second round of the SEDCO lending-assistance program with funds from Syracuse’s allocation of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). SEDCO is the Syracuse Economic Development Corporation. (Photo credit: zoeyadvertising.com)

Funds are available for agencies that work with people suffering from opioid abuse in the city of Syracuse and provide prevention and treatment strategies, per the City’s department of neighborhood and business development.

The request for proposals (RFP’s) opened on Aug. 10 and will close on Oct. 3 at 2:30 p.m., the City said.

The City of Syracuse recently received its first disbursement of $1.1 million in state funds from pharmaceutical-company settlements to invest in projects and programs that address the effects the opioid epidemic has had in the community.

The department says the goal of the RFP is to use the funding specifically for treatment and prevention programs that are “innovative;” use evidence-based approaches to change; address the root cause of the problems; and “support with dignity” those community members living with and/or recovering from substance-abuse disorders.

Interested applicants should contact the division of purchase by calling 315-448-8453 or emailing purchase@syrgov.net. Any questions about the application must be received by Sept. 19, the City said.
