New York ranks third for green job creation

New York ranked third on a list of states with the most clean energy jobs, according to the latest quarterly Clean Energy Jobs Roundup from Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2).

California and Florida topped the list. E2 says it is a group of business leaders that promotes sound environmental policy.

While noting the major advances made in clean energy employment in the second quarter, the E2 report also shows that the potential end of a tax credit is putting a damper on the growth in the wind industry. In the second quarter, E2 tracked 12 wind project announcements poised to create 2,300 jobs, down from 31 projects and 9,100 jobs in the first quarter.

“The good news is that despite the challenging economic and political environment, the clean energy industry is still creating badly needed American jobs all across the country,” Judith Albert, executive director of E2, said in a release. “The bad news is that the threats to the wind industry because of uncertainty over the Production Tax Credit are very real and are already taking its toll on job creation in that sector.”

According to the E2 report, California was the top clean energy job state with 16 announced projects with 20,879 possible jobs. Florida was next with three projects and 7,375 possible jobs. New York rounded out the top three with three projects and 1,408 possible jobs.
