Executive Chef Sarah Hassler says the expansion in hours was a business decision made because things slow down in the summer, when the city’s many college students return home.
“That’s completely backward for me,” Hassler says. She previously worked in the Finger Lakes and Hudson Valley where summer is the busy season.
Hassler says she and owner Eric Alderman saw the success of other lunch offerings in the neighborhood and decided it was a good idea. “I can make sandwiches,” she says.
Alderman says the added hours are a chance to make more efficient use of the space, which had been closed Mondays and Tuesdays. “We’ve been open for seven months now,” he says, “and we’ve been expanding one step at a time. As soon as we get good, we’re adding things.”
The lunch menu includes a Cuban, a pastrami Reuben, a cheesesteak sandwich, a turkey club sandwich, and a vegetarian sandwich with avocado, sprouts, Havarti, tomato, cucumber, and lemon dill aioli. All sandwiches are $9 according to Alderman, and include a side. A draft beer is $5 with a sandwich.
Lunch hours are 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
While lunch was added to deal with the summertime slowdown, Hassler says it will continue to be served year-round.
