WATERTOWN, N.Y. — The Greater Watertown – North Country (GWNC) Chamber of Commerce today announced the renewal of funding through the U.S. Department of Defense for the North Country Procurement Technical Assistance Center to continue the center’s services.
The North Country Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) is hosted by the GWNC Chamber of Commerce and helps businesses in Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Oswego, Oneida, Onondaga, Franklin, Clinton, Essex, Herkimer, and Hamilton counties to apply and compete for government contracts.
On July 23, the Defense Logistics Agency announced the continuation of the PTAC, which was introduced to Watertown in 2008, according to a GWNC Chamber news release. Kicking off its 7th year on Sept. 1, the PTAC currently provides free assistance with government contracting to 450 businesses in the covered area. Over the last 12 months, PTAC clients have reported 287 federal contracts with award values topping $33.8 million, the release stated.

The North Country PTAC says it serves as a no-cost resource for businesses pursuing and performing under contracts with the Department of Defense, other federal agencies, state and local governments and with government prime contractors. “The PTAC is the bridge between buyer and supplier, bringing to bear their knowledge of both government contracting and the capabilities of contractors to maximize fast, reliable service to our government with better quality and at lower costs,” the GWNC Chamber news release stated.
PTAC services include: System for Awards Management (SAM.gov) registration, classes and seminars, individual counseling, easy access to bid opportunities, contract specifications, procurement histories, and other information needed to compete for government contracts.
The North Country PTAC office is located at the Greater Watertown-North Country Chamber of Commerce at 1241 Coffeen St. in Watertown. PTAC staff are also available to meet with clients across the 11-county coverage area.
