New York farms’ total production of cheese, excluding cottage cheese, rose 3.5 percent to 777 million pounds in 2013 compared to 2012, according to a new report from the USDA New York field office.
Total cottage-cheese production in the Empire State fell 1.4 percent to 311 million pounds last year compared to 2012, the field office said.
New York farms cranked out 358 million pounds of Italian cheese in 2013, up 1.9 percent from the year before.
