SALINA — A Palo Alto, Calif.–based company will acquire Salina–based InfiMed, Inc. in a deal set to close next month.
Varian Medical Systems, Inc. (NYSE: VAR) has agreed to pay about $15 million for privately owned InfiMed, plus payments based on the sales of InfiMed products over the next two years. The companies expect the acquisition to close in early April.
Varian manufactures medical devices and produces software for treating cancer and other conditions with radiotherapy, radiosurgery, and brachytherapy. InfiMed produces software and hardware for medical-imaging applications.

InfiMed will operate within Varian’s X-Ray Products segment after the acquisition is complete.
“The addition of InfiMed will enable Varian to better serve its X-ray customers as a one-stop shop for X-ray tubes, flat-panel image detectors, and workstations,” said Robert Kluge, president of Varian’s Products business. “InfiMed’s products and know-how will enable us to provide more fully integrated X-ray component solutions to our customers.”
InfiMed is headquartered at 121 Metropolitan Park Drive in Salina. It employs about 60 people and generates $15 million in annual revenue.
Varian has about 5,900 employees at manufacturing sites in America, Europe, and China. The company generated almost $2.6 billion in revenue in 2011, according to its annual report.
