LENOX, N.Y. — A 51-year-old Chittenango woman faces multiple charges after Madison County Sheriff’s deputies said she defrauded the welfare system.

Mista Hamilton, of 7354 Wheeler Road, was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, two counts of offering a false instrument in the first degree, and welfare fraud in the fourth degree, all felonies.

“It is alleged that while Hamilton was receiving public assistance, she failed to report to the Madison County Department of Social Services that she was employed and receiving an income,” the Madison County Sheriff’s Department reported in a release. “As a result of this fraudulent act, Hamilton received $2,004 in public assistance that she would not have received if she reported her income.”
