CICERO, N.Y. — Onondaga County Sheriff’s deputies arrested the former treasurer of the Cicero-North Syracuse Winter Guard parent-run booster club.

Deputies said Steven Bara, 51, of Francica Terrace, stole more than $15,000 from the booster club, for which he had served as treasurer until November.

Board members of the club discovered money missing, deputies said, and found several discrepancies in the club’s financial records.

“Bara is accused of making numerous unauthorized ATM withdrawals and charges on the club’s credit card between June and August 2017, which he used for personal expenses to include groceries and liquor, totaling more than $15,000,” deputies said in a release.

Bara faces charges of grand larceny in the third degree. If convicted, he could be sentenced to as many as seven years in jail.

The Cicero-North Syracuse Winter Guard booster club is independent of the school district and is run by parents and volunteers, deputies explained.
