Mohawk Valley Advertising Club to close

UTICA, N.Y. — After 67 years in existence, the Mohawk Valley Advertising Club announced it will close at the end of November with one final event to celebrate the club’s long, local history.

Following nearly a year of consideration and consultation from strategic experts, the Mohawk Valley Ad Club board of directors unanimously voted to dissolve the club in its current state, according to a news release.

“This was a difficult decision for our board of directors,” Meghan Fraser, Ad Club board president, said in the release. “We considered various avenues for the future of the Advertising Club, enlisting the help of outside experts throughout the process.”

During its nearly seven decades, the club provided Mohawk Valley advertising and communications professionals the opportunity to meet and network with others in the field. It also offered programs to help members improve their job skills and professional standing, according to its website.

The Ad Club says it plans to continue its support of the local communications field with an educational scholarship to be created through The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc. The Ad Club adds that it will set specific guidelines for how these funds will be used to help future communications, marketing, and advertising students.

“In the end, we decided the best option would be to dissolve the organization and use its assets to support future generations of communications professionals in the Greater Utica area,” Fraser said in the release. “That way, the legacy of this nearly 70-year-old club will live on for years to come.”

The Mohawk Valley Ad Club will hold its final event for members, past and present, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, at Aqua Vino Restaurant and Banquet Hall at 16 Harbor Lock Road East in Utica.
