VF Outlet boasts the “original” outlet sales as early as 1970. M.O. Lee, president of VF Corporation at the time, suggested public sales to clear out excess inventory. The merchandise quickly sold out, and the outlet sale “was born,” according to the Destiny USA news release.

From there, VF Corporation hosted similar events on a regular basis, creating the VF Outlet, the news release said.

Since the VF Outlet sales of the 1970’s, the new VF Outlet offers both excess inventory and brands that include Lee, Wrangler, JanSport, Maidenform, Avia, Disney for men, women and children, according to the Destiny USA news release.

VF Outlet, which is based in Reading, Pa., operates 80 stores in 33 states. It also has a store at Waterloo Premium Outlets in Seneca County.

VF Outlet is part of the VF Corporation (NYSE: VFC), a Greensboro, N.C.based firm that specializes in brandedlifestyle apparel and footwear with $11 billion in revenues, according to the VF Corporation website.
