Former Bassett CEO Streck joins HANYS executive team

RENSSELAER, N.Y. — The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) has announced that Dr. William Streck has joined the association as the chief medical and health-systems innovation officer.

Streck in July retired as president and CEO of the Bassett Healthcare Network, headquartered in Cooperstown, after 30 years in the position.

He was “one of the longest serving health-system executives in New York state and the country,” HANYS said in a news release.

“During his 30 year tenure as a hospital leader, Dr. Streck embraced new models of patient-centered care and significantly expanded access throughout the region,” Dennis Whalen, HANYS president, said in the release. “Dr. Streck’s keen understanding of the healthcare environment will provide a critical perspective as we look to more care integration and community health management.”

In his new role, Streck will work with HANYS’ member hospitals and health systems to focus on emerging models of care, population health initiatives, risk-management strategies, and physician relationships, the release said.

Besides his role as the Bassett CEO, Streck also served five New York governors on advisory boards, on state Health Department committees, state policy groups, and community and organizational boards, including the HANYS board of trustees from 1988 to 2014.

He was HANYS board chair in 2000, the release stated.

The Rensselaer, N.Y.–based Healthcare Association of New York State says it is the “only statewide hospital and continuing care association in New York state,” representing 500 nonprofit and public hospitals, nursing homes, home care agencies, and other health-care organizations.
