Loretto changing provider for physical-therapy services

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Loretto is switching providers for some rehabilitation services, triggering a lay-off notice for 52 employees of Physical and Occupational Rehabilitation Therapy and Speech Pathology Services.

However, Loretto spokesperson Julie Sheedy tells BJNN that all the workers will have the chance to apply with the company that will be providing the services starting this spring — Theradynamics Rehab Management.

“All the existing employees will have the opportunity to apply to continue to work here — and we hope they do,” says Sheedy, Loretto’s VP of marketing.

Physical and Occupational Rehabilitation Therapy and Speech Pathology Services had filed a legally required Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN notice) saying that 52 employees would be separated from the company by the end of May.

Sheedy explained that the change came as Loretto went through a periodic review of the services it uses and found a supplier whose responses to a request for proposals better matched what Loretto was seeking.

Physical and Occupational Rehabilitation Therapy and Speech Pathology Services had been providing services at Loretto for seven years, according to Sheedy.
