Syracuse heads to Atlanta fresh off a 60-55 win last Saturday at Pittsburgh, its first league road triumph of the season. Freshman Bourama Sidibe led the way with a career-high 18 points and 16 rebounds. Georgia Tech lost at home to Clemson 72-70 on Sunday evening.
What’s at stake for Syracuse?
The Orange have done their NCAA Tournament chances quite a bit of good with their three consecutive victories. Now, they have an opportunity to get back above .500 in ACC play and pick up another road win critical to their tourney possibilities. Syracuse is likely on the right side of the NCAA bubble at the moment and can keep its momentum going if it lands in the winner’s circle again.
Syracuse and Georgia Tech split their two meetings last season, with the Orange winning 90-61 at the Carrier Dome in the regular-season finale, while the Yellow Jackets seized the earlier matchup 71-65 in Atlanta.
Injuries
Syracuse will face Georgia Tech without freshman reserve guard Howard Washington, who injured his right leg in practice on Monday, according to Pete Moore director of athletic communications for the men’s basketball program.
The Orange are also expected to be without starting forward Matthew Moyer, who suffered a left-ankle injury last Wednesday night vs. Boston College. He traveled with the team to Pittsburgh but didn’t play. When asked after that game if he expected Moyer back for Georgia Tech, Orange head coach Jim Boeheim said, “No, I don’t think so. He’s out for a while.”
Marek Dolezaj figures to start again for Moyer. The 6’9 freshman forward from Slovakia had 7 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks in his first career start at Pitt, while playing 29 minutes.
The injuries to Washington and Moyer leave Syracuse with just six healthy scholarship players.
