CONKLIN, N.Y. — Dick’s Sporting Goods, Inc. (NYSE: DKS), a sports and fitness retailer, has formally opened its regional distribution facility at the Broome County Corporate Park in the town of Conklin.
The company, which is now headquartered near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, started in Binghamton in 1948.
The project cost totaled more than $84 million, the office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a news release issued Thursday.

Dick’s investment is creating more than 450 full-time jobs over the next five years in the Southern Tier, Cuomo’s office said.
The company’s new regional distribution facility is its fifth nationally and will service more than 160 retail locations throughout the Northeast.
To encourage the company’s expansion in New York, Empire State Development (ESD) offered up to $5.25 million through an Upstate Revitalization Initiative grant as part of the “Southern Tier Soaring” plan. ESD also offered up to $6 million through the Excelsior Jobs program in exchange for the job commitments in the region over the next five years.
“We are so proud to have built this facility here in the greater Binghamton area. I can only imagine how excited my father would be if he were able to see a facility like this in the place where we grew up and where he started with a small bait and tackle shop at 453 ½ Court Street 70 years ago,” Edward Stack, chairman and CEO of Dick’s Sporting Goods, said in Cuomo’s release.
Founded by Dick Stack, Dick’s Sporting Goods has grown to encompass more than 715 stores, offering sports equipment, apparel, footwear, and accessories.
Dick’s also owns and operates Golf Galaxy and Field & Stream specialty stores, as well as Dick’s Team Sports HQ, an all-in-one youth sports digital platform offering free league-management services.
