AUBURN, N.Y. — The Cayuga Economic Development Agency (CEDA) announced it will host its annual Economic Forecast Luncheon on Thursday, Jan. 25, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn at 74 State St. in Auburn.
The event’s two keynote speakers are from the Workforce Development Institute (WDI) — Deputy Director Vivian Benton and Central New York Regional Director David Goodness.
Benton first served as CFO and then as director of operations for the WDI. She has been responsible for working with regional staff, unions, businesses, educational institutions, government agencies, and others to shape collaborative programming initiatives, according to a CEDA news release. Benton is “especially interested” in working with businesses on regional solutions to the skills gap in manufacturing.

As CNY regional director for the WDI, Goodness focuses on “engaging strategic partners” and developing strategies to tackle workforce-development initiatives and issues while helping employers bridge the skill-gap problems across all industries in the region and the state, CEDA said.
In their addresses, Benton and Goodness will discuss trends in workforce development across New York. They will provide case studies showing what generated positive results for workforce development in the state. Workforce development is a growing concern among businesses in our community, according to CEDA. This year’s luncheon will be a “special opportunity for our local businesses to hear from industry experts about how other businesses have faced challenges and what opportunities are available,” the release stated.
Tracy Verrier, CEDA’s executive director, will also speak at the event, exploring local and regional economic trends in various industries. CEDA will distribute to attendees its 2017 annual report, highlighting projects and activities over the last year.
