SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Spectrum has awarded announced that the Westcott Community Center is one of the recipients of its inaugural Spectrum Digital Education Grants.
The organization, located at 826 Euclid Ave. in Syracuse, plans to use the $8,200 grant to purchase iPads to provide Internet access and training to area seniors, Spectrum said in a news release.
Under the program, local seniors will be able to borrow the iPads for use in their own homes, helping them use the Internet and social media sites to “stay connected more regularly” with friends and family.

“Westcott Community Center is thrilled to receive funding from Spectrum that enables us to improve the quality of lives for our senior citizens utilizing digital technology,” Joan Royle, executive director of the Westcott Community Center, said in the Spectrum news release. “We are excited to start our new iPad program and know seniors will benefit greatly from being able to connect with loved ones on a regular basis.”
Spectrum digital education is a new philanthropic initiative, designed to support nonprofit organizations that educate community members on the benefits of broadband and how to use it to improve their lives.
Spectrum digital education grants are part of the company’s national $1 million “commitment” to provide digital education in Spectrum-served communities through financial grants, public-service announcements, workshops, and webinars to local nonprofit organizations.
Spectrum is a suite of “advanced” broadband services offered by Stamford, Connecticut–based Charter Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: CHTR), a broadband-communications company and the second largest cable operator in the U.S.
