DeWITT, N.Y. — Leadership Greater Syracuse (LGS), a nonprofit offering a yearlong civic-engagement training program, has announced its 54-person class of 2018.
The DeWitt-based organization will welcome the new class, its 28th, at its annual Holiday Social event on Thursday (Dec. 7) at the Palace Theater in Eastwood, according to a new release from LGS.
The participants represent a cross-section of local business, education, and nonprofit organizations. LGS teaches them about community leadership, empowerment, group dynamics, community opportunities, and trends.
“The 54 participants in the Class of 2018 will be immersed in the issues and achievements of our community — and through the year-long program, they will be provided the tools and the connections they need to give back to CNY in a way that is significant to them,” Pam Brunet, LGS executive director and graduate of the LGS Class of 1998, said in the release.
The organization noted that a recent survey found that 82 percent of all LGS graduates are still living in Central New York and have held more than 800 volunteer positions. “We are preventing the brain drain,” said Brunet.
The Class of 2018 will participate in an orientation from 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursday and then be welcomed by the LGS alumni at the holiday social immediately following the orientation.
