Auburn Doubledays hire an operations manager, play-by-play voice

AUBURN, N.Y. — The Auburn Doubledays minor-league, pro baseball team has hired Andrew Sagarin as operations manager and David Lauterbach as a communications associate who will serve as its play-by-play broadcaster.

The team announced the hires in a news release Thursday.

The Auburn Doubledays are part of the New York-Penn League as a single-A, short-season affiliate of Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals.

Originally from Great Barrington, Mass., Sagarin has experience at both the major-league and minor-league levels, the team said. This past year, he served as assistant stadium manager at Tempe Diablo Stadium, the Tempe, Ariz. spring-training home of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Sagarin was also operations manager for the Mesa Solar Sox of the Arizona Fall League in 2014.

“I’m excited to be here and to provide the greater Auburn area with a phenomenal baseball experience,” Sagarin said in the Doubledays release.

Sagarin is a 2014 graduate of Syracuse University (SU) with a bachelor’s degree in sport management. While an undergraduate, he was a sales and game-day operations intern with the Syracuse Chiefs triple-A baseball team during the 2013 season.

Doubledays General Manager Mike Voutsinas said Sagarin “already has a lot of ideas about how to improve our organization,” according to the news release.

As operations manager, Sagarin will supervise game-day staff and focus on ticket and sponsorship sales. He will also oversee the aesthetics and the game-day environment at Falcoln Park, the Doubledays’ home stadium.

In addition to Sagarin, the Doubledays have also hired Lauterbach, who is currently a senior at SU.

In addition to his play-by-play duties, Lauterbach will manage the Doubledays website and act as the media-relations coordinator, the team said. He will also work on sponsorships sales.

Lauterbach, a native of Los Angeles, broadcasts Syracuse Orange football, men’s basketball, and men’s lacrosse games on WAER-FM at SU.

He spent the past two summers broadcasting games for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Lauterbach is set to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast and digital journalism in December, the Doubledays said.

“David’s experience at Syracuse and on Cape Cod makes him a perfect addition to our team,” Voutsinas said. “We’ve had great broadcasters from Syracuse University work for us in the past, and I think David will continue that tradition.”

The team will release more information about the Doubledays’ broadcast plans for the upcoming season in the coming months, according to the news release.

The Doubledays are scheduled to open the 2015 season on June 19 at Batavia. Opening Night at Falcon Park is scheduled for June 25 against the West Virginia Black Bears, the team said.
