Rescue Mission Alliance appoints Stanis as its new director in Binghamton

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Rescue Mission Alliance has appointed Jessica Stanis as the new director for its Binghamton program.

Stanis replaces Michael Ross, who left to take a job with Midlands Technical College in South Carolina, a Rescue Mission Alliance spokeswoman told BJNN.

Stanis assumed the role in mid-August. She will provide oversight of all local services and staff and will be the liaison with the Binghamton community, according to a news release issued Thursday.

The Binghamton program is part of the Rescue Mission Alliance of Syracuse, “one of the oldest and largest homeless shelters in the country,” the organization said. It is headquartered at 155 Gifford St. in Syracuse.

Prior to joining the Rescue Mission, Stanis was the coordinator of academic advising and student services for Binghamton University. As a student at Binghamton, Stanis earned her dual master’s degrees in public administration and social work and a certificate in nonprofit administration.

“We’re excited to have Jessica leading our Binghamton program,” Alan Thornton, CEO of Rescue Mission Alliance, said in the release. “Her passion for the local community, experience and insight will be instrumental to enhancing and expanding the services we provide to individuals in need.”

The Binghamton Rescue Mission assists people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless — providing housing, meals, case management, employment resources, and assistance with basic living needs.

The Binghamton Rescue Mission in 2016 provided 19,062 meals and 10,195 overnight stays to individuals in need, the organization said.
