MARCY, N.Y. — The Syracuse district office of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and partners will hold a government-contracting event for minority and women entrepreneurs next month in Marcy.
The event, titled “Opening Doors to Government Contracting,” is set for Oct. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the student center at SUNY Polytechnic Institute.

About the event
The session will provide information, resources and advice on how to do business with federal, state, and local agencies, the SBA said in a news release.
Procurement-resource specialists will present “specific” government-procurement programs and certifications for minority and women entrepreneurs.
Participants will be able to attend workshops that will cover federal contracting and certifications as well as state certifications and marketing to state agencies.
Jaime Sweet, president of Hartman Enterprises, Inc., a machine-parts maker in Oneida, will deliver the event’s keynote address, sharing how her company pursued certifications and became a government contractor.
In addition, Michael Stark, director of business management and contracts at PAR Technology (NYSE: PAR) Corp. subsidiary Rome Research Corporation, will host a presentation called “Top 10 Tips for Starting as a Subcontractor.”
Attendees will also be able to find out their own company’s potential procurement opportunities at the agency calls the “bid match expo.”
Representatives from the procurement-assistance center at the Mohawk Valley Small Business Development Center (SBDC); North Country Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC); and Empire State Development will be able to register small-business owners onsite for their bid-matching services, the SBA said.
The event also includes speed-networking sessions for attendees to connect with procurement representatives from large corporations and federal, state and local agencies looking for local small-businesses suppliers.
Those organizations include Utica–based Adjusters International; City of Rome; City of Utica; Charles A. Gaetano Construction Corporation; New York State Department of Transportation, and the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome (also known as Rome Lab).
Besides the SBA Syracuse district office, the conference is also presented by the procurement-assistance center at the Mohawk Valley SBDC; Women’s Business Center of New York State; North Country PTAC; and Utica SCORE, according to the SBA news release.
