The warehouse is part of what was formerly the Case Supply warehouse. The same building, which is next to and visible from West Street, is also home to ProLiteracy, which describes itself as “the largest adult literacy and basic education membership organization in the nation,” according to its website.
The Case 3 Saltmakers Warehouse project included the renovation of 23,000 square feet of space in the vacant industrial building.
ESD helped spur the project with a $1 million capital grant through the Central New York regional economic-development council, which helped cover the cost of the overall building-renovation effort.

The project’s total cost was close to $2 million, ESD said in an email response to a BJNN inquiry
The project included the construction of 12 apartments, all of which have been rented, according to the news release.
It also converted a portion of the building’s third floor into commercial space that is now available to rent.

The repurposing of the building supports the regional CNY Rising plan, which aims to “revitalize” local communities, ESD said.
About NWSI
NWSI is a nonprofit organization operated out of the Office of Community Engagement and Economic Development at Syracuse University (SU), according to its website, saltdistrict.com.
It leverages the resources of SU, the state, the city, private foundations, businesses, nonprofit corporations, and neighborhood residents “to achieve its goals.”
The NWSI directs the Syracuse: Arts, Literacy, Technology (SALT) district of the Near Westside. The acronym SALT is a reference to the salt-production industry that “helped put Syracuse in the map” and led to the nickname, “the Salt City,” ESD said.
