LITTLE FALLS HOSPITAL

Little Falls Hospital, a subsidiary of the Bassett Healthcare Network, announced that LINDA BELDEN has joined the medical staff of Little Falls Hospital’s Dolgeville Health Center as a family nurse practitioner. She received her post-master’s certificate as a family nurse practitioner in May 2017 from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse and has more than 23 years of nursing experience.

Joining the General Surgery Associates practice is board-certified surgeon YURIY ZHUROV. He will provide care to patients needing general surgeries and minimally invasive procedures in Oswego Hospital’s advanced surgery center. Zhurov is a third-generation physician. His mother was an endocrinologist, while his grandmother was a general practitioner who during her medical career treated wounded World War II soldiers. Zhurov received his medical degree from Kharkiv National Medical University and a Ph.D. from the Institute of General and Emergency Surgery in Ukraine. He completed his residency at Nassau University Medical Center and also completed a fellowship at the Institute of General and Emergency Surgery in Ukraine and a second fellowship was completed at New York Medical College in Valhalla. Zhurov has been practicing in Michigan where he also serves as a clinical assistant professor at Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Orthopedic surgeon GLENN AXELROD, of Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists, will begin providing services at the Oswego Health Services Center. Axelrod is a well-known, board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, joint replacements, arthroscopic and open shoulder surgery, and general orthopedics. He completed his undergraduate, medical school training, orthopedic residency and orthopedic fellowship training at the University of Rochester.

ROME MEDICAL PRACTICE

Urologists BASHAR OMARBASHA, M.D., and WAEL F. MUAKKASSA, M.D., of AMP Urology, have joined Rome Medical Practice to provide treatment of diseases of the urinary tract in men and women in Rome. Muakkassa and Omarbasha have specialized training and experience in many aspects of urology AND are trained in laparoscopic and microvascular techniques. Omarbasha earned his medical degree at Damascus University in Syria and completed his internship and surgical residency at the Hospital de Chartres in Paris, France. He further trained with a urologic surgery residency at Boston University Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital in Massachusetts, an affiliate of Harvard University Medical School, and a fellowship in urological oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, focusing on the treatment of urological cancers. Omarbasha has been in practice since 1990. Certified by the American Board of Urology, Muakkassa earned his medical degree from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon, where he completed his surgical internship. He completed his surgical residencies at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo and St. Luke’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. He advanced his training with residencies in urology at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo and the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore and also completed a fellowship in renal transplant surgery at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. Muakkassa held academic positions at the University of Maryland in Baltimore and American University of Beirut in Lebanon prior to going into private practice where he has more than 20 years of experience.

ST. JOSEPH’S HEALTH

Electrophysiologist M. MAGDY A. MIGEED, M.D. has joined St. Joseph’s Physicians Cardiology in East Syracuse. He earned his doctorate in medicine from Ain-Shams University Medical School in Cairo, Egypt and completed internal medicine residency and fellowship in cardiology at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. Migeed’s training also includes a fellowship in electrophysiology at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester. He gained extensive emergency-medicine experience in pediatrics and family-practice trauma management as a staff emergency room physician at U.S. Army Hospitals; the 130th Station Hospital in Heidelberg, Germany and the 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany respectively. Prior to joining St. Joseph’s Physicians Cardiology, he was director of arrhythmia services for Genesis Hospital, in Zanesville, Ohio and Deborah Heart & Lung Center in Browns Mills, New Jersey and also worked as an electrophysiologist at Hartford Hospital, Hartford, Connecticut and maintained a private practice for nearly a decade in Syracuse. An avid researcher, Migeed’s work has been presented and published multiple times. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology.
