SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Le Moyne College this week hosted about 30 high-school girls from 11 districts for a week-long summer camp focusing on science and technology.
The event, which debuted in 2016, was formally called the “AT&T and CNY STEM Hub Summer Camp for Young Women.”
The camp sought to address the “importance of girls engaging in a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education and career path,” according to a news release about the camp.

Participants learned about computer-coding basics, drone technology, robotics, 3D printing, computer-science literacy, and other STEM-related topics.
The event included speakers, such as New York Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, who visited Le Moyne on Tuesday and heard about what the students would be working on during the program.
Hochul on Thursday also visited a similar summer camp for high-school girls held at Buffalo State College.
CNY STEM Hub, Le Moyne College, Partners For Education & Business Inc., and Dallas, Texas–based AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) organized the event.
AT&T contributed $20,000 to the program through AT&T Aspire, the firm’s $400 million philanthropic initiative.
Partners For Education & Business is an affiliate of MACNY, the Manufacturers Association of Central New York.
The CNY STEM Hub is “focused on impacting students in the classroom by implementing new teaching strategies in multi-disciplinary/inquiry-based methodologies with real world applications,” according to its website.
