Report: All CNY regions gain jobs in the last year, except Elmira

The Syracuse region added 2,200 jobs over the past year while the Utica–Rome area picked up 1,900 jobs.

The Binghamton, Watertown–Fort Drum, and Ithaca regions also added jobs between June 2016 and this past June. That’s according to the latest monthly employment report that the New York State Department of Labor issued on Thursday.

The only Central New Yok region that didn’t gain jobs in the last year was Elmira, which shed 200 positions, a 0.5 percent decline.

The job gains for the Syracuse region in that 12-month period represent an increase of 0.7 percent, while Utica–Rome’s job growth was 1.5 percent.

The Ithaca region added 700 jobs, an increase of 1.1 percent, between June 2016 and this past June.

The Watertown–Fort Drum region gained 700 jobs over the past year, up 1.6 percent.

 The Binghamton region picked up 600 jobs, a 0.6 percent gain.

New York state gained nearly 165,000 total jobs, an increase of 1.7 percent, in that 12-month period. The state economy gained 26,000 jobs, or 0.3 percent, between May and June of this year, the labor department said.
