Katko announces nearly $40,000 federal grant for Volney Volunteer Fire Corporation to buy equipment

U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) on May 3 announced that, with his support, the Volney Volunteer Fire Corporation (VFC) in Oswego County has received $39,810 in federal funding to buy equipment “critical to providing reliable breathing air for firefighters.”

The money came through the Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) program, which is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

“This grant will help ensure that these firefighters have the resources they need to respond effectively and efficiently, and I was proud to support this application for funding,” Katko said in a news release.

DHS’s AFG program was founded in 2001. It awards funding for local fire departments to obtain “critically needed resources and equipment.” The Volney VFC will use the funding to purchase an air compressor/cascade SCBA fill station, per the release.

The Volney VFC protects the 48 square miles and 6,200 residents of the town of Volney. It operates two fire stations.

Congressman Katko represents the 24th Congressional District, which includes all of Onondaga, Cayuga, and Wayne counties and part of Oswego County.
