Lost Dog Café expands with bottled sauces

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — The Lost Dog Café in Binghamton announced it has expanded into the bottled-sauce business. It will unveil a new line of bottled sauces next Thursday, May 11 at an event at the restaurant, located at 222 Water St. in Binghamton.

“For years, we’ve had requests from Binghamton residents and those passing through town asking us to open a Lost Dog Café in their town,” Marie McKenna, co-owner, said in a news release. “Many people have requested some of our food recipes and it seemed like a natural progression for Lost Dog Café to bottle some of its most requested items to be savored no matter where you live.”

Co-owner, Elizabeth Hughes added that the popular eatery is also looking to add more of its dressings and sauces to the product line. “We’d love to see Lost Dog accessible to a huge amount of people. We make our dressing and sauces with natural ingredients and are very particular in making sure the products taste like they do in the restaurant,” Hughes said in the release.

The two Lost Dog Café owners, along with partner Nicole Howard, began their quest to bottle the sauces a few years ago. The sauce is made at Brooks Bottling Company in Oneonta. Flavors include Vodka Sauce (the most popular), Honey Hot, Chili Lime Vinaigrette, and Cajun Seasoning.

The sauce will also be available for sale at the café and soon will be offered through its website www.lostdogcafe.net.

Lost Dog Café opened in 1994 in an old garage on Main Street in Binghamton. It was named after one of the owners’ wayward 2½ pound Chihuahua, Clarese, who had become lost on visits to Binghamton. Clarese always turned up even if each disappearance lasted for weeks at a time, the release stated. Lost Dog Café moved to its current location, a much larger space in an old cigar factory on Water Street, in April 1997.

The May 11 event, #GetSaucyAtLostDog, starts at 6 p.m., is free, and open to the public, per the release. Attendees will have a chance to sample food made with the various sauce offerings.
