People news: Hurley, Tietje join Erie Canal Museum board

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Dan Hurley and Sarah Tietje were recently elected to three-year terms on the board of trustees of the Erie Canal Museum in Syracuse, the museum announced.

Hurley is assistant VP for government and community relations at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. He is a graduate of Canisius College and has worked in communications, public affairs, and government-relations positions at Upstate Medical since 1984.

Tietje is an academic counselor with the HEOP program at Cazenovia College. She earned a master’s degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a bachelor of fine arts degree from the Art Institute of Boston. She has served as secretary for the New York chapter of the Association for Gravestone Studies and preservation consultant for the Cazenovia Preservation Foundation.

The board is responsible for financial oversight, overall planning, resource development, and participation in and periodic review of the mission of the Erie Canal Museum, a nonprofit educational organization established in 1962.

The Erie Canal Museum says it shares 200 years of Erie Canal history through interactive displays, hands-on exhibits, narrative audio tracks, and original artifacts.
