Syracuse Chiefs postpone first two games due to rain

Chiefs Opening Day GraphicSYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse Chiefs have postponed the season’s first two baseball games against the Rochester Red Wings.

The postponement is “due to impending storms and the threat of rain during Thursday afternoon and Friday throughout the day,” the team said in a statement issued Thursday.

Saturday’s game will remain as scheduled at 1:05 p.m. and will be the Chiefs’ home and season opener, weather permitting.

Thursday’s contest will be made up on Sunday as part of a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1:05 p.m.

Friday’s game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Friday, Aug. 4, starting at 6:05 p.m.

All of Thursday’s promotions, including the “53 or Free” guarantee along with the “Guaranteed Win” promotion will now be in effect for Saturday’s game.

General Manager Jason Smorol guarantees that the temperature will be “at least” 53 degrees for the team’s season opener or fans can exchange their ticket stub for a ticket to any game in April or May. The current weather forecast calls for a Saturday high temperature in only the low 40s.

Under the “Guaranteed Win” promotion, “if the Chiefs win and/or the temperature is below 53 degrees at first pitch, then fans may exchange their opening-day ticket for one ticket to any future Chiefs home game in April or May.”

Fans can exchange tickets for the Thursday and Friday games for a ticket to any remaining Chiefs game of equal or lesser value at the Syracuse Chiefs ticket office, the team said.
