Cornell to inaugurate new president on Aug. 25

Martha Pollack HeadshotITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell University plans to inaugurate Martha Pollack as its 14th president on Aug. 25.

Pollack will begin her duties as Cornell’s president on April 17.

She currently serves as provost and executive VP for academic affairs at the University of Michigan.

Hunter Rawlings III, who has been Cornell’s interim president since April 25 of last year, will remain in his current role through April 16, the university said. Rawlings assumed the interim role following the March 6, 2016 death of then-president Elizabeth Garrett.

Cornell will hold the installation ceremony in the afternoon on Cornell’s Arts Quad, with a “community celebration” to follow.

Those who are unable to attend the ceremony in person will be able to view it online via live stream, Cornell said.

Other inaugural activities being planned include academic events on Aug. 24 involving students and faculty, Joel Malina, VP for university relations and co-chair of the inaugural steering committee, said in the release.

Cornell said it will provide additional details and schedule information about the inauguration event “in the coming month.”
