Hiscock Legal Aid Society appoints Gehron as new president & CEO

Linda GehronSYRACUSE, N.Y. — Linda Gehron has started work in her new role as president & CEO of the Syracuse–based Frank H. Hiscock Legal Aid Society (HLAS).

Her appointment took effect Feb. 1, HLAS said in a news release.

HLAS operates at 351 S. Warren St. in Syracuse.

Gehron succeeds Susan Horn, who retired on Jan. 31 after almost 27 years as the organization’s leader.

Horn had worked for HLAS for a total of 32 years, the organization said when it announced her plans to retire last April.

Gehron joined the Hiscock Legal Aid Society in 2012 and has served in the role of supervising attorney for its family-court program since March 2013.

“The board of directors and I are pleased to have Linda leading the organization,” Virginia Hoveman, who chairs the Hiscock Legal Aid Society board of directors, said in the release “Linda’s unwavering commitment to our mission and clients, and over three decades of experience practicing in various areas of the law in Central New York undoubtedly will allow her to build upon the strengths of the organization so that we can continue to meet the growing needs and challenges of ensuring access to justice for all.”

Hiscock Legal Aid Society is a nonprofit, “public-interest” law firm founded in 1949 from a bequest of Frank H. Hiscock He served as chief judge of the New York State Court of Appeals from 1916 to 1926.
