UTICA, N.Y. — Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) announced it has recently appointed Alen Smajić as its executive director of marketing and communications.
He will oversee developing the college’s brand and its marketing and communications programs. Smajić will direct and implement goals and strategies to further MVCC’s mission, vision, and strategic plan, serve as MVCC’s spokesperson and primary media contact, and work closely with other departments at the college to develop marketing strategies to boost student enrollment and success, the college said.
Prior to joining MVCC, he served as team lead and senior media analyst for BAE Systems, Inc. in Rome, where he was responsible for developing, directing, implementing, and managing marketing and communication materials for several Air Force Research Lab program management offices, MVCC said.

Smajić also previously held a position as director of media and technology at The Paige Group.
He holds an MBA in technology management/marketing and a bachelor’s degree in communication and information design, both from SUNY Polytechnic University, and earned his associate degree in graphic design from MVCC.
