A Syracuse University professor has been selected to be the national chair of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) in 2018.
Anthony D’Angelo, professor of practice in public relations at Syracuse’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, will also serve as PRSA’s chair-elect on the national board of directors in 2017, according to an Oct. 22 PRSA news release that Syracuse University distributed Monday.
The nonprofit, New York City–based PRSA is the “largest professional organization serving the U.S. public-relations community,” according to its release.
The PRSA Leadership Assembly on Oct. 22 voted to elect D’Angelo to the national-chair role for 2018 during its annual meeting in Indianapolis.
“I am honored and humbled to be elected to serve PRSA as we look to the future of the Society and the public-relations profession,” D’Angelo said. “I believe our profession has a particular responsibility to model collaborative servant leadership, based on a solid ethical foundation and a commitment to giving people a say in decisions that affect them.”
D’Angelo’s practice areas include change management; reputation management; branding and marketing communications; and he is currently developing a financial communications/investor relations specialization for undergraduate and graduate students at Syracuse University, PRSA said.
D’Angelo joined the Newhouse faculty after more than 25 years of service in the corporate and agency sectors, PRSA said.
He held communications leadership roles for White Plains, New York–based ITT Corporation; the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation; Aurora, Canada–based Magna International (NYSE: MGA); Hartford, Connecticut–based United Technologies (NYSE: UTX); and Sage Marketing Communications.
Magna International previously operated New Process Gear in DeWitt, which closed in 2012, while United Technologies is the parent company of the Carrier Corporation, which continues to have operations in DeWitt.
