HERKIMER, N.Y. — Herkimer County Community College has appointed Karen Scott of Vernon Center as coordinator of the College in Prison program.
Scott is responsible for recruiting instructors, supporting students, and coordinating orientation activities for the College in Prison program at the Mohawk and Mid-State correctional facilities.
She previously served as the College in Prison program coordinator for Mohawk Valley Community College from 2012-2015. In 2014, she received the Continuing Education Association of New York’s James C. Hall Exemplary Credit Program Award.
Scott holds a bachelor’s degree in professional and technical communication from SUNY Polytechnic Institute.
The College in Prison program provides instruction at Mid-State Correctional Facility in Marcy and Mohawk Correctional Facility in Rome, giving inmates the opportunity to earn an associate degree while incarcerated. The college says this increases their chances of successfully rejoining the workforce when their sentences end.
