SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) will host an open house on Thursday, Sept. 26 from 6-8 p.m., discussing the fourth contract of the Interstate 81 (I-81) viaduct-replacement project.
The fourth contract focuses on construction on Interstate 690 (I-690), Crouse and Irving Avenues, and several streets on the east side in the city of Syracuse.
The informal, open-house-style meeting will be held at the Central New York Biotech Accelerator at Upstate Medical University, 841 E. Fayette St. in Syracuse.

Fourth contract details
Contract four of the I-81 viaduct-replacement project includes the realignment of I-690 to accommodate a new interchange from Crouse Avenue to I-690.
The contract will also reconstruct Crouse and Irving Avenues, reconfiguring both streets from two to three lanes; reconstruct and resurface portions of seven additional city streets; and replace two bridges on I-690 — over Lodi Street and Crouse Avenue — to align with the interstate.
Work within contract four also includes the start of major upgrades to the Syracuse and Onondaga County drainage systems, separating storm water and sanitary sewer flow, NYSDOT said. Additional contract elements include new traffic video detection signals; designated bike lanes; shared-use paths; new sidewalks and crosswalks with pedestrian poles; and the installation of noise barriers along I-690.
