SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse University will open its 2025 football schedule against the Tennessee Volunteers and will also face opponents that include Clemson, SMU, and Notre Dame — each of which lost in the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff (CFP).
The Irish, who will host the Orange in November, lost in the CFP title game to Ohio State on Jan. 20.
In addition, the Orange football schedule will include a Halloween Friday night visit from the Bill Belichick-led North Carolina Tarheels. Belichick previously coached the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl titles.

Syracuse University (SU) Athletics describes this year’s football schedule as “one of the nation’s most difficult schedules.” The Orange will face five teams that finished in the top 20 of the final AP Poll, all on the road, and face 11 bowl teams from this past season, according to the SU announcement.
The 2025 schedule includes the meeting with Tennessee in the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Aug. 30 to open the season. It also includes the 69th all-time meeting with Colgate on Friday, Sept. 12 and the 81st all-time meeting with Pittsburgh on Oct. 18.
So, the Orange will have their work cut out for them this year to repeat the success they had in the 2024 football season, posting a 10-3 record and notching a Holiday Bowl win over Washington State.
