SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Onondaga County is seeking proposals to redevelop the Public Safety Building (PSB) at 511 S. State St. in Syracuse.
The county in partnership with the City of Syracuse issued the request for proposals (RFP) in late January. Developers interested in redeveloping the site have until 3 p.m. on March 10 to submit proposals, the office of Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh said on Thursday.

Both the City and Onondaga County own the Public Safety Building, and Syracuse serves as its operator. It’s a complex that currently houses the main offices for the Syracuse Fire and Police Departments. Both will relocate to a new city public-safety campus on the West Side, per Walsh’s office.
The PSB complex includes a 79,048 square foot office tower and a 72,182-square-foot vacant former corrections facility.
Syracuse City Auditor Alexander Marion on Thursday also issued a statement about the RFP for the Public Safety Building.
“This project presents a once in a generation opportunity to re-envision what the East End of Downtown Syracuse can be: a thriving residential, commercial, and lifestyle neighborhood in the heart of our City,” Marion said in the announcement from his office. “With our public safety forces relocating to a new facility, this building presents a unique opportunity for a creative visionary to re-imagine this site and invest in our dynamic and growing community.”
Marion’s office explained that the Syracuse Common Council in 2024 voted to move the Syracuse police and fire department headquarters to a new site, a leased facility on West Fayette Street on the edge of Tipperary Hill. As part of that move, the existing Public Safety Building will need a new use.
