UTICA, N.Y. — The Adirondack Railroad is searching for a new general manager (GM) after its previous GM Justin Gonyo accepted a job at Amtrak.
“Justin’s three and a half years as general manager has been a series of successful initiatives that have greatly improved operations,” Frank Kobliski, Adirondack Railroad’s president and CEO, said in a press release. “This was achieved despite the constraints imposed on the business operations of the Adirondack Railroad during the recent pandemic. Amtrak recognized Justin’s abilities and contributions to us and recruited him to be a part of that organization’s high-speed rail expansion. All of us wish Justin well in his new assignment.”
Gonyo’s accomplishments include oversight and collaboration during the New York State Department of Transportation’s upgrade and renewal of the 85-mile-long railway from Snow Junction near Remsen to Tupper Lake. He also oversaw the addition of winter services, the expansion of rail bike operations in Old Forge and Tupper Lake, and efforts to provide memorable experiences for passengers.
Kobliski will serve as interim GM for the Adirondack Railroad while the search is underway. With assistance from the board’s executive committee, he will provide guidance and oversight to staff and volunteers during the remaining operating season, which includes the railway’s Polar Express service.
Adirondack Railway Preservation Society, Inc. operates the Adirondack Railroad. The 501(c)(3) volunteer-based organization is based in Utica and operates on the former New York Central Adirondack Division.
