Adirondack Railroad set to resume Tupper Lake service after storm damage

UTICA, N.Y. — The Adirondack Railroad will resume limited passenger-excursion services from Utica to Tupper Lake and from Old Forge to Tupper Lake on Oct. 22 and Oct. 29, after repairs to the tracks following August storm damage.

“The efforts to repair the extensive washouts at two locations have been extraordinary,” Adirondack Railway Preservation Society President/General Manager Frank Kobliski contended in a press release. “The High Peaks Limited, our premier return-trip service from Utica to Tupper Lake, with a scheduled stop in Old Forge, will operate on the two dates. We have begun to contact passengers with ride credits from earlier cancelled trains to offer them first choice, prior to opening ticket sales to the public.”

Kobliski credited the teamwork by suppliers; its business partner, the New York State Department of Transportation; staff, and volunteers for their work in getting the trains back on track.

“The foliage season will be over,” he says. “However, the distant vistas are stunning and easier to see without leaves on the trees, and animal sightings increase. “We anticipate the community of Tupper Lake will welcome the restoration of service.”

The Adirondack Railway Preservation Society, Inc. operates the Adirondack Railroad. It is a volunteer-based, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization with main offices in Utica. Since 1992, it has hosted more than 1.85 million passengers on the former New York Central Adirondack Division rails.
