UTICA, N.Y. — The Adirondack Railway Preservation Society, Inc., which operates the Adirondack Railroad, has appointed Frank Kobliski as general manager, effective Jan. 1.

He takes on this role in addition to being president of the organization’s board of directors.

Adirondack Railway Preservation Society expects Kobliski to fill the role through the year with the executive committee searching for a permanent general manager in the second half of 2023.

“Our organization in the year ahead will experience significant growth in our operations and products,” Steven Potter, board VP, said in a news release. “By year end, our rail operations will become the longest excursion passenger railroad operating east of the Mississippi with regular service from Utica to Tupper Lake. Mr. Kobliski’s extensive senior-management experience in the transportation industry and his eight-year service record on the board will support a smooth transition.”

Along with the railroad, the Adirondack Railway Preservation Society operates the Adirondack Scenic Railbike Adventure and Peachtree Railbikes. The not-for-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer-based organization is based in Utica. Since 1992, it has carried more than 1.8 million passengers operating on the former New York Central Adirondack Division.
