AHA names Fit Friendly companies in the Mohawk Valley, Southern Tier

The American Heart Association (AHA) announced it is recognizing 14 Utica–area and three Southern Tier organizations as Fit-Friendly Worksites for encouraging physical activity and health in the workplace.

In the Mohawk Valley, all 14 organizations have Gold-level status, including the Central New York Psychiatric Center, Human Technologies Corp. of Utica, and Madison County.

In the Southern Tier, Lourdes Hospital and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield have received Gold-level status, and Lockheed Martin’s Owego site has a Platinum-level distinction, the organization said in a news release.

The AHA is recognizing the organizations following the most recent application period in January.

Through the Fit-Friendly Worksite designation, the AHA works with area employers on their health and wellness programs.

Nearly 16,000 Utica–area residents and more than 5,500 Southern Tier residents are currently working for companies that the American Heart Association is recognizing with the designation, the organization said.
