Airports serving Syracuse, Binghamton, and the Elmira/Corning area will use federal funding to pay for upcoming projects to revitalize runways and enhance airfield safety.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) allocated the more than $5.4 million in funding, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D–N.Y.) and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D–N.Y.) said in a joint statement Tuesday.

The funding comes from the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP).

Greater Binghamton will also use more than $400,000 to rebuild airfield-guidance signs.

The Elmira/Corning Regional Airport in Horseheads plans to use a grant of more than $1.5 million to rebuild its taxiway. It’ll also utilize a grant of nearly $867,000 to improve and modify its aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) building.
