All New York State mass-vaccination sites will accept walk-ins starting Thursday

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says all New York State COVID-19 mass-vaccination sites can provide shots for all eligible adults who just walk in without an appointment beginning Thursday. (Photo credit: zoeyadvertsing.com)

Beginning Thursday, all New York State mass-vaccination sites will be open to eligible New Yorkers for walk-in COVID vaccine shots on a first come, first served basis for all.

People will be able to walk in for first doses only, since second doses will be scheduled automatically after administration of the initial shot, the office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday.

Additionally, all COVID vaccine providers across the state are encouraged to likewise allow eligible New Yorkers to just walk in and get an injection without an appointment.

The move allowing people to just show up and get a shot without an advance appointment comes after about 55 percent of eligible adults in the state have received at least one vaccine dose and about 45 percent of the total population has gotten at least one shot.

Cuomo also announced that the mass-vaccination site located at 10 Gannett Drive in Johnson City in Broome County will move inside the building at the same address. The move will allow for increased capacity and will be less impacted by any adverse weather conditions.
