Allegiant begins flights from Ogdensburg to Orlando, Florida

OGDENSBURG, N.Y. — Allegiant (NASDAQ: ALGT) on Wednesday launched new, nonstop service from Ogdensburg in St. Lawrence County to Orlando, Florida.

The new service will operate twice weekly and bring more than 18,000 additional visitors to the Orlando area annually.

“We’re excited to add this new route from Ogdensburg to the Theme Park Capital of the World,” Jude Bricker, Allegiant COO, said in a company news release on the Allegiant website. “We’re pleased with how folks from Ogdensburg have embraced our unique brand of ultra-low fares and nonstop service to visit the Orlando area, and we look forward to bringing more visitors and economic growth to the area.”

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer (D–N.Y.) recalls visiting Ogdensburg two years ago and pledging support to make the Ogdensburg International Airport a “regional hub” for North Country residents and travelers, according to a statement his office released on Wednesday.

“From successfully urging the [Federal Aviation Administration] approve the runway expansion so larger Allegiant planes could take flight, to delivering over $18 million in federal funds to complete the airport’s expansion, I am pleased to say we have successfully made that vision a reality,” Schumer said in the statement.

Allegiant decided in 2014 to offer flights from Ogdensburg.

The Ogdensburg International Airport held a formal opening event on Wednesday, according to its Facebook page.

Las Vegas, Nevada–based Allegiant offers low-base fares “averaging less than half the cost of domestic round-trip tickets purchased in 2015,” according to its news release.

The airline contends its business model has allowed it to grow from one aircraft and one route over 15 years ago, to offering “convenient, affordable vacation travel in over 110 markets across the country, more than any other low-cost airline.”
