Allegiant offers new nonstop flights from Syracuse to Orlando

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Las Vegas, Nevada–based Allegiant (NASDAQ: ALGT) on Wednesday announced new, nonstop air service from Syracuse Hancock International Airport to Orlando’s Sanford International Airport beginning May 30.

Allegiant added the service to “meet the demand that exists in the market,” Christina Callahan, executive director of Syracuse Hancock International Airport, tells BJNN.

BJNN asked if the Syracuse airport had used any grants to offer the airline incentives to secure the flights, like it has done in the past. Callahan said, for these flights, Hancock did not offer such incentives.

However, “the new service does qualify for the [airport] authority’s air service incentive program, which will include a combination of fee waivers and marketing support in accordance with the authority’s guidelines and parameters,” Callahan added in an email response.

To secure an Allegiant route from Syracuse to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in late 2014, Hancock International Airport offered Allegiant Air $100,000 in funding from the $500,000 Small Community Air Service Development grant that the U.S. Department of Transportation in 2010 awarded the Syracuse airport to help attract more airlines, Callahan noted at the time.

For these new Allegiant flights, one-way fares are “as low as $68,” according to an Allegiant news release. It also offers further explanation about the one-way fare, saying, “Price includes taxes and fees. Fares are one way and not available on all flights. Flights must be purchased by March 8, 2018 for travel by Nov. 3, 2018.”

The new flights will operate twice weekly. With the addition of this new Orlando route, Allegiant will now serve four cities from Syracuse Hancock International Airport. The others are Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and Tampa-St. Petersburg, Florida.

In the Allegiant release, Callahan said that Hancock is “thrilled” that Allegiant added the new service to Orlando.

“Allegiant has been a great partner to the airport and their continued growth with the addition of their fourth destination is a testament to the commitment they have made to serve central New York,” she said.
