American Airlines to end flights to Binghamton, Elmira airports in February

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — American Airlines says it will cease service at the Greater Binghamton Airport and Elmira Corning Regional Airport early next year.

“On February 15, 2017, we are discontinuing service to and from Elmira and Binghamton from Philadelphia. Our network planning and scheduling teams constantly evaluate our network, looking at supply and demand for every route to better position ourselves to serve our customers. Canceling routes is never easy, but it is what allows us to expand into new markets and add more frequencies,” American Airlines said in a statement issued today.

American Airlines becomes the second airline to pull air service from Binghamton.

United Airlines in August announced that it would end flights to and from Greater Binghamton Airport in late November. United had been offering flights between Binghamton and Newark.

American Airlines’ exit will leave Delta Air Lines as the only carrier serving Binghamton. But Elmira Corning Regional Airport will still have Delta and Allegiant Air offering flights.
