SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Applications for the Onondaga County agritourism-grant program are now available.

Applications can be found at agriculture.ongov.net/blog and will be accepted on a rolling basis. Applicants will be eligible for awards up to $15,000. Proposed projects should fall in one or more of the following categories: Improve, Expand, Initiate, and Market.

One of the five main components in the recently adopted Plan Onondaga — Onondaga County’s “comprehensive” plan — is “ensuring that we embrace and make strategic investments in our agricultural community,” the county said in a news release.

Agritourism, in particular, is an area that is “prime for investment and growth,” the county noted.

“Our strong agricultural community, including the many agritourism destinations, are a critical component to what makes the quality of life so special in Onondaga County,” Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon, said in the release. “While the economic benefits of agritourism are important, it also helps promote farm viability and allows visitors a unique, hands-on educational experience. I am excited to see what new and exciting opportunities are proposed and remain steadfastly committed to ensuring that we have a strong agricultural community in Onondaga County.”
