HERKIMER, N.Y. — Arc Herkimer recently received two grants totaling $50,117.37 from the Awards Committee of the Community Health Outreach Project (CHOP), a grant-funded program administered by Cerebral Palsy Associates of NYS, Inc.

Arc Herkimer used the funds to acquire three Maxi Sky Ceiling Lifts, one Maxi Move with two slings, and two Parker tubs. The ceiling lifts allow direct-care staff to transfer residents without manual lifting. The Maxi Move unit improves vertical-floor lifting to help with a variety of transfer needs. The Parker tubs enhance the bathing experience for individuals with disabilities by allowing to choose a preferred position from sitting to reclining.

“We are extremely grateful to CHOP for this support and opportunity,” Connie Helmer-Jordan, nursing director, said in a release. “This equipment is crucial for aiding staff in transfers, lessening possible injury, as well as increasing independence, comfortability, and dignity for our individuals who need that extra assisted support.”

With seven different divisions and more than 40 sites around Herkimer County, Arc Herkimer provides support to more than 600 people with disabilities annually.
