Arrow Electronics moving jobs at Seneca Data Distributors in Cicero to Arizona

CICERO, N.Y. — Arrow Electronics, Inc. (NYSE: ARW) has plans to move 65 jobs at  Seneca Data Distributors, Inc. in Cicero to a site in Phoenix, Ariz. as the firm relocates its warehouse operations.

“It’s not the entire Seneca workforce,” says John Hourigan, vice president of global communications at Arrow.

Seneca Data’s employee count in Cicero totals about 150, he adds.

“The majority of the 65 will be offered opportunities to relocate to Phoenix where we have warehouse operations,” says Hourigan.

He spoke with the Business Journal News Network on Friday.

Arrow operates more than 460 locations in 58 countries “and what we’re doing is leveraging Arrow’s infrastructure in order to meet customer and supplier needs,” says Hourigan.

The remaining employees in Cicero will focus on sales functions, he added.

For those who decide against relocation, Arrow will provide outplacement support, he says.

The affected positions “involve the integration work” that both companies handle, Hourigan added.

Seneca Data Distributors is a wholly owned subsidiary of Arrow Electronics.

Arrow Electronics, Inc. (NYSE: ARW) is an Englewood, Colo.–based firm that describes itself as “a global provider of products, services and solutions to industrial and commercial users of electronic components and enterprise-computing solutions,” according to its website.

The company has more than 16,500 employees worldwide and generated more than $21 billion in sales in 2013, according to its website.

Arrow serves more than 100,000 original-equipment manufacturers, contract manufacturers and commercial customers through its global network of locations, the website says.

It acquired Seneca Data in August, says Hourigan.

Seneca Data Distributors, located at 7401 Round Pond Rd. in Cicero, is a computer manufacturer.

Seneca Data focuses on areas that include digital signage, digital broadcast, security, and surveillance, which Arrow sees as “potential growth markets.”

“Seneca was attractive to us because of the ability to increase [Arrow’s] depth in those markets,” says Hourigan.

The company wants to sell the Round Pond Road facility and is searching for another facility to house the Seneca Data sales operations, says Hourigan.

“We will absolutely maintain a presence in Syracuse. The presence will be sales operations,” he adds.
